Gearing up for School!

Around this time every summer, I start to get the cleaning bug!
We already went through Madi's closet a while back so on Friday we tackled her desk, room and bookshelf.  She wanted a canopy thing over her bed and luckily we never got rid of the one we used for her reading nook a while back.  :)
We also got our back to school hair cuts and Madi made slime recipes before, during and after.  :)
I got our board ready for the upcoming year . . .
We took a quick break and ran to Michael's for their craft this week.
She made a cute pineapple tag to put on her backpack!
 Showing me her slime . . .
Then we went on a real quick walk/ride before we started grilling dinner.
Well Matt grilled and I did this . . .
I did do some research on the eclipse that's coming up soon.
We were going to go to the pool after church today but since it was closed we decided to ride our bikes to Devyn's house so she could come over and play.
This has probably been our best summer ever and while we are sad to see it go, I think we are all ready for some routine!

Happy 6th of August?

Last Sunday, I think I asked Madi to go do her hair.
This was not really what I had in mind.  :)
Our church re-scheduled our annual 4th of July celebration to August 6th.  We were thankful for the rain in July but didn't like postponing the fun.
Our church rents out the corn maize so the kids can ride the cow train, climb the rock wall, bounce in jumpers, and more!
This year we enrolled in the dessert contest.  It felt a little strange making flag cookies but it was still fun!
Then the fireworks display started once it got dark.
Every year we continue to be surprised with how amazing the fireworks are and how long!
This past week I went into work quite a bit so Madi spent her days with Aunt Shelle and Grandma.
Grandma Mayberry took them to see the Emoji movie on Tuesday then these silly girls played in the sprinklers at the park and got all wet!

This was Madi's outfit of choice on Thursday when she went to her friend Devyn's house to play.
Madi has been wanting a new case for her phone (Matt's old phone that she uses to text and play games).  We found a cute one with gold glitter than flows around in it.  Plus a loop for her to hold like all the big kids have these days.  :)
This picture was on Facebook from 8 years ago.  How can it seem like only yesterday?
Casey and I were so happy when the books came in for our meeting next Thursday.
We are excited to purchase a new book by one of our own professors and have her come speak to us and help us be more culturally responsive to the students in our classrooms.

West Texas Rocks!

Friday night, Madi went to Devyn's church for Kid's Night Out!
They had pizza, played on water slides and painted rocks for this site West Texas Rocks that's really big in Lubbock right now.
So on Saturday morning, she hid her rock at Dillard's since I needed to buy some make-up there anyway.  You leave hints on the site and then post when you find one too!
Saturday afternoon, we met our Sunday School class for an afternoon of bowling!
Thankfully Madi is friends with many of the kids whose parents attend our Sunday School class.
The bowling gang!  We bowled almost 5 games so we were TIRED!
Sunday morning before church these two slipped out for some fishing while I exercised and got ready for church.
We met our Sunday School class for lunch at Rosa's after church too.  This was just the kids table!
After we baked our cookies for the re-scheduled fireworks celebration at church, Madi and I went and hid her rocks around town.
In the process of hiding her 3 rocks, she found 4 other rocks so we had to hide those too!
It was neat to see where all the rocks were from!
We hid them at Madi's favorite places around town.

As we were hiding our last rock, she found another one!
Who came up with this idea?  Sounds strange but it's really been a fun time.  She's painting more rocks as we speak!

Panic Room!

Tuesday night, I met my old friends from a mom's group I used to take Madi to all the time. Sure miss these ladies!
Wednesday night we celebrated Grandma's 67th birthday by trying to escape a panic room then going to dinner!  Here they are listening to the rules . . .
 Busy looking for clues . . .

We did it with over 15 minutes to spare!
Thursday afternoon, Madi played at Altitude with the cousins so when I picked her up she really wanted to go decorate cookies at The Cakery again since they were Star Wars theme this time.
She chose to decorate Chewbacca, Princess Leia, and BB8 cookies.
 Finished products!
We finished at the bakery and headed to swim.
She starts out a little behind on her dives but even with a hurt ankle she finishes strong.
The coaches are impressed with her ability and how fast she's advancing.

Donuts, Donuts & More Donuts!

After a family game of Clue, Madi and I played speak out.
She recently lost two bottom teeth so it made her mouth look extra silly.
I couldn't help but laugh at our funny girl!
 Fancy nails!
We had a social in our Sunday school class so we brought donuts.
That meant an early morning treat for this girl.
She loved wearing the dress Grandma Mayberry bought her to church.
Then Monday morning, we met Grandma Mayberry for a breakfast birthday celebration since she had to attend a funeral that day.
 Happy 67th Birthday!
Tuesday afternoon, we met Maisen and Shay at The Cakery for their fun afternoon of decorating donut cookies!
They've started having drop-in decorating classes each week.
They have everything ready to make the fun cookies and teach them the tricks along the way!
It was pouring when we left the bakery that I had to show Matt.
Rain is so rare that anything it's raining Madi has to go play in it.

This time she collected worms from the corners of the street.
We were thankful for many inches of much needed rain!
When it rains or is humid here, this girl's curly hair sure shows it!
