Goodbye, Doug. For now.

I got some really sad news last Sunday, February 5th.  My boss, my mentor, my friend died suddenly Saturday night.

We spoke at Doug's funeral.  It was one of the hardest things I've ever done but when Fanni asked us to share stories about Doug at work for his kids we knew we had to say yes.

Monday morning, the university honored Doug's passing by lowering the flag.

It was so hard to see this on the screens all over the building at work.
Robert wrote a great article about Doug's passion for education.

It was an honor to be included in the viewing with family Saturday evening and to be invited to dinner at Doug and Fanni's home on Sunday evening.
I wasn't ready to say goodbye, so I'll just say see you later.

First Time Skiing!

Thursday morning, Madi went to Chick-fila for a bible study with Riley, Maisen, Brynlyn and Maygen!
Then we checked her and Brynlyn out of school early so we could head to Ruidoso to ski!
Madi's been asking to try skiing for a few years now, so we thought this week was a good time to try it out!
We decided to stay at the Inn of the Mountain Gods so we could enjoy the restaurants, pool and casino before and after the girls skiied!

We got up early on Friday and headed up the mountain.
Dressed and ready!
Being fitted for skis!

Ready for ski school!
We just watched and enjoyed a few drinks and snacks while they skiied!

Going up the ski lift . . .
They also had fun riding the gondola a few times.

When they got tired we headed back down the mountain and into town to do a little shopping and eat dinner.
But first, we had to stop at this beautiful look out point.

This dress was so cute but Madi said she looked like a cupcake. :)
Then we enjoyed the evening at the hotel then headed home Saturday morning.
Madi was a big fan of skiing so I think we'll be back soon.

Uncle Lefty's Birthday

Grandpa Mayberry traveled to Tulsa last weekend to surprise his brother (Uncle Lefty) for his 80th birthday!

He said Uncle Lefty did a double take or two before realizing it was him!
My cousin Brit and his wife brought over a cake so they had it for breakfast!  :)
He also got to see Brit and Dawn's son Kellen.
He said they went to a movie, out to dinner and to the casino.  Sounds like a great time to me!

Amarillo Volleyball Tournament

The last weekend in January we headed to Amarillo on Saturday for a volleyball tournament.
First we escaped a trapped room in a cool warehouse in downtown Amarillo.
Then we ate a yummy dinner at Taco's Garcia that everyone LOVED!
The night ended with a quick dessert run and some card games!
We were up early for volleyball on Sunday morning.
The girls didn't play that well together and most just had off days but we still had fun watching them.

We have a few weeks off then it will be back to volleyball!

What a Blur!

The last few weeks have been a blur!
We had a volleyball-free weekend, so what did we do?
Yep!  We went to watch our friends' kids play volleyball!

Madi has a great group of new friends and one of them brought all the girls these cute personalized make up bags when they had a slumber party at our house two weekends ago.
Still love having a chauffeur . . .
We had a great meeting with our Snyder ISD district partners and Dean Mendez.  Doug was there too but skipped out for the picture.

Madi and I wore red for NCL and Women's Heart Month!
Madi and Brynlyn went to Clay Cafe and Raising Canes for dinner last Friday night.
Thought this was a funny pic of Riley and Brynlyn with a sliver of Madi on the side!
January flew by, hope February is a little slower.
